LAURA JACOB

Mixed Media and Encaustic Art

Artist Bio:

Laura Jacob is a professional mixed media and encaustic/beeswax painter.  Her work is heavily influenced by her love of nature, often using imagery of trees and water. She uses collage and layering materials mixed with painting, as a way to show the process of building and tearing away. Her goal in creating art is to find a link between ordinary life and the bits of magic that can be found in it. The result is often ethereal and atmospheric pieces with a nod to vintage illustration.

She graduated with a BFA in Oil Painting from BGSU in 1997. Her solo show, "Found in Nature" at Halley Gallery in April of 2019 was reviewed in the Columbus Dispatch. She was chosen as an Emerging Artist for the Columbus Arts Festival in 2017. The previous year the HGTV show, "Welcome Back Potter", furnished the remodel of a house with 35 of her pieces. Her work has been shown in several shows, galleries throughout Central Ohio. Much of her focus for the past 13 years has been raising her daughter which helped her find her artistic point of view. She's worked professionally as an art consultant and project coordinator and is currently co-owner of the art advisory company Haven Art Advisory.

Artist Statement:

I'm a mixed media and encaustic artist inspired by the beauty I find in nature.  My goal in creating art is to find a link between ordinary life and the bits of magic that can be found in it.  The result is often ethereal and atmospheric pieces with a nod to vintage illustration and assemblage art. I’m intrigued by art that displays a process beneath the finished product.  To me, the process of making art is just as important as the outcome.  I use materials that speak to me on a visceral level then discover interesting ways to incorporate them into my art.
