Olivia Casey

Artist Bio:

Olivia Casey is a Westerville, Ohio based jewelry artist with a passion for upcycling vintage and preowned jewelry. She is mostly self-taught, but will jump at the chance to take classes at the Columbus Cultural Art Center as well as from other artists when the mood strikes her. With her love for travel, she has collected jewelry along the way from thrift stores, antique shops, markets, and small street vendors.

“It’s really cool to share my travel stories about a piece with a buyer. For example, how I destructed then reassembled pieces I bought in a San Francisco Goodwill, crafted with beads I bought from a small vendor in Italy, then mixed in a few beads I added from a bracelet I bought at a Buddhist Temple in China.”

As of late, she has found herself being more of a crafter. Whether it’s making holiday ornaments, macrame plant hangers, oil infused bracelets, simple earrings, teaching art classes to young children, working with air dry clay, polymer clay, acrylic paint techniques, etc, she enjoys exploring all mediums.

Artist Statement:

There’s a handmade sign hanging above the doorway at Daylight Artist Collective & reads, “No Coincidences”. It’s no coincidence that just as I sent my youngest off to college, a space opened up for me at the studio. As a new empty nester, having a space just around the block from me is the perfect way to spend my time: creating, soaking in inspiration from fellow artists, laughing & chatting it up while working on a passion of mine, organizing events for the studio, and decluttering my house then organizing everything into my workspace. Overall, being a part of the art world and community rather than feeling lonely at home while watching trash tv shows (which I still occasionally indulge in) will enhance the quality of my life. Here’s to the next chapter!
